February 5, 2009 DOT Awards and “Dalentine’s” dinner with meeting at Michael V’s restaurant Attendees= Mary and Tim Szafranski, Bob and Mary Switzer, James and Julie Wylie, Lonnie and Melanie Dickey and Laura Swift, Marcia Givens, Marellie and Dick Robinson, Pat Keough, Melissa and Mike Givens and sons, Travis and Cindy Taylor, Jessica Duff, Bill and Shirley Schillinger, Lynda and Rusty Brownson, Robann and Cody Cloud. A big thank you to Mary Szafranski for organizing the party! Prizes for original limericks (dog treat jars) to Robann Cloud and Melanie Dickey. Correct guesses of number of “liver” brown M&Ms= Marcia, number of black M&Ms= Cody, total jar of M&Ms= Julie Wylie. Interesting facts about Dalmatians: 1. from Lynda- how were Dals introduced to other countries in 19th century= traveled with circuses and gypsies with their horses. 2. From Cindy T.- first Dal registered with AKC in 1888. 3. From Mary- what are 3 different shades of liver= liver, chocolate brown, light brown. Since Dals came from Croatia- what were they used for-boar hunting packs, shepherds, ratters, but not water rescue. 4.Other names for Dalmatians- carriage dog, English spotted coach dog, spotted dick, English plum pudding dog, firehouse dog. Incredible limericks to match with 13 owners-James got all 13, Lynda and Melanie got 11, Cindy and Shirley got 10. Marcia called the meeting to order after dinner at 8 pm. President’s report- thank you for all who helped and participated in activities and specialty this past year. Thanks to Melissa for getting sweatshirts ready for parade, and Mike and Mary S. for updating and taking care of club website. Motion made by Travis to accept minutes of last meeting (Jan.09) as published, seconded by Mary Switzer, and approved. Treasurer’s report read aloud by Shirley, motion made by Melanie to accept as read, seconded by Mary Szafranski, and approved. Combined Specialty 2009 dates in limbo per Barbara Jeleski, may need to have our specialty in Grove or Joplin, but more information will be available toward end of February. Announcements= Milkbone Classic Match Feb. 21-22 at Companion Dog School. Two membership applications received in January put to vote now- Robann and Cody Cloud, and Joyce and Joe Smith, approved by vote and accepted as new members. Member Lori Finlayson congratulated on 2 champions titled this past year. Chairs and chairbacks presented to members in good standing Lynda Brownson/Marcia Givens, Travis and Cindy Taylor, Jessica Duff, Julie and James Wylie, and Julia Soukup. Congratulations to co-members of the year 2008= Mary Szafranski and Travis Taylor. Next DOT meeting March 5, 2009 at Companion Dog School (to be confirmed)—April meeting may be later in month after DCA in Kansas and during Claremore dogshow weekend. |
