Presentation to membership- Travis Taylor spoke about issue of normo-uric acid Dalmatians being allowed to register with AKC (can register with UKC at this time). The progeny (now in 14th generation) of a one- time breeding of a Pointer to a Dalmatian in 1973 have corrected the gene for high uric acid stone-forming in these Dalmatians. This hereditary gene has caused serious health issues for the breed, including obstructive urinary stone production, emergency surgery, side effect of low protein dog food leading to cardiomyopathy and shortened life spans. A petition is going to AKC to bring this issue to a vote- Travis handed out websites for more information and the petition to sign. Future events- AKC responsible dog owner events planned for Sept. –perhaps DOT can participate in local events with other groups. Also there are summer walks, Utica Square outdoor concerts, etc. coming up- email ideas to secretary or any board member. Motion made to adjourn from Bill Schillinger, seconded by Travis Taylor, approved. Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm. |
