DOT meeting November 1, 2008 at Givens home

Meeting was called to order by president Marcia Givens at 2:30 pm.

Secretary Melanie Dickey read minutes of last meeting (Oct. 3). Motion was made to accept as read by Lynda Brownson, seconded by Mary Switzer, and passed.

Treasurer Shirley Schillinger reported a current balance of $5682.62.  DOT specialty 10/30/08 income and expenses not finished yet. Motion was made by Melanie Dickey to accept treasurer’s report as is till show report finished, seconded by Mary Switzer, and passed.

Show chair Melanie Dickey reported the DOT specialty was successful- and a big thank you to all who worked so hard to help make it a good show. “I may have been the figurehead on the front of the ship, but everyone was paddling!” Lots of positive comments heard from exhibitors about great trophies, great raffle items, available food (since the concessions were not open Thursday as planned); all 4 Dalmatian judges were given gifts as well as inside ring steward Trish. Thank you gift cards sent to all show chairs and raffle coordinators. Double trophy card labels helped keep judges table organized and trophies to correct winners. Obedience chair Mary Szafranski said several complimented DOT on having a fun specialty with nice dogs represented and 4 people asking for membership applications. Pictures taken by Melanie will be downloaded to Mary S. to send on to winning entries.

Mary Switzer parade report- it was voted on in previous meeting not to participate in the Tulsa parade this year but DOT will be walking in the Jenks Holiday parade Saturday Nov. 22 at 10 am, lineup by 9:30 am. Mary Szafranski agreed to wear her Dal costume and kids will pass out stuffed animals instead of candy. We will not carry banner this year. If Shriner fire truck ready, we could have that in parade as well. The Wylies dogs have firefighter costumes from Halloween.

Discussion of Christmas party- Dec. 6 is not a good day due to dog shows and other conflicts. Mary S. will call and cancel our reservation. Motion was made to move Dec. party to Feb., seconded by Shirley, and approved. Considering dates for award dinner in February again, Mary Szafranski will check in to dates. Any titles or awards finished this year 2008 should be sent to board members. Discussed offering award winners a choice of embroidered jacket or chair which club would get. Embroidered titles or patches could be put on jackets. Motion made by Mary Szafranski if price had gone up on dinner, club could pay half of each reservation, seconded by Mary Switzer and passed.

Club discussed including out of town members news and awards and work on helping families with rescue Dals  to include everyone in DOT whether they show their dog or do other things with their dogs. Interacting and follow-up with all members is important as well as public education. Board will be looking at rules or requirements for club to include and honor out of town member accomplishments. (Example-Kim Hanna and Apple- top Dal).

RobAnn and Cody Cloud (“tony and Caesar”) were given membership applications.

Next meeting December 4, 2008 at Dickey’s home (Christmas open house)- address 6753 E. 66 St. Tulsa (10 houses east of So. Sheridan  on 66 St.). Everyone can bring light snacks if they want. Call if questions 918-481-1316.

January meeting will be Jan. 8, 2009 at Companion Dog Training.

After brags, meeting was adjourned.
