Also report on responsible dog ownership day at Murphy dog park in Rogers, Arkansas: day went well and everyone had fun trying the lure chase. James Wylie taught scouts about pet ownership and safe dog skills. Parade Report – Mary Switzer states Jenks parade will be Nov. 21 at 10 am- Melanie made motion for DOT to pay $25 for Jenks parade entry fee, seconded by Mary Szafranski, and approved. We will decorate the gocart again for the parade for older dogs and those not walking in parade. Show report- show chair Melanie reports everything ok for specialty show 10/30/09 in Joplin—made several email and phone contacts to straighten out pending info so show could be changed on AKC website from pending to official. Entries close Oct. 14. Shirley can make trophy cards after entries close. This year trophy chair will have each winner sign for trophy when received so no confusion. Travis will ask Trish to steward or will steward conformation himself. Everyone should bring their dogs even if not showing so the vet can do blood draws for DNA base. Obedience and rally at 3 pm, sweeps at 530 pm and conformation at 630 pm requested. Combined Specialty will have donor board again- motion made by Lynda Brownson for DOT to give $100 to donor board, seconded by Mary Switzer, and approved. “support your breed rescue” ad page- DOT will be billed later. Motion made by Melanie for DOT to pay $25 for support breed rescue ad, seconded by Doug Givens, and approved. Trophies will be billed later for only those used in specialty. Other business—PS Gordan framed picture donated to club and will be used for drawing for Dalentines party first Thursday February 2010. Sympathy card sent to Julia Soukup for the loss of Strider. Members shown newspaper article about Lawanna Smith and her rescue/agility dogs. Shirley will send sympathy card to Kerry Smith family (dad died suddenly). Dalmatian National specialty is April 1-7, 2010, in Lawrence, Kansas. New business- Melanie attended Tulsa Roundup information meeting Sept. 22,’09 at Michael V’s- Lori Finlayson from Mid-Continent Kennel club and Suzi Campbell show chair coordinator gave out information concerning a 5 day dog show at Quik Trip Building at Tulsa fairgrounds May 27-31, 2010. Specialties would hold their shows on Thursday May 27 and Mid-Continent and Seminole all-breed clubs would hold their shows on Friday-Sat.-Sunday- Monday of Memorial Day weekend. There are no shows the weekend before or after this weekend. Charge to each specialty would be $200. Mid-Continent and Seminole would be paying rent of building space. Specialty clubs could use a judge from their panel (Mid-Continent paying judge expenses). Catalogs will be provided. Recruiting and training for stewards being pursued. Information will be taken back to specialty clubs for vote. Agreement signed contract due by Nov. 1. DOT club discussion—the draw of a 5-day show is handlers and show people are looking for better deals and are picking longer shows instead of single specialties due to the economy. Specialties can be one at a time or can be back to back- DOT has never used shows to raise money for club (we usually just break even)- we have the right to have shows back to back now if we chose to but it would depend on the club members choosing to do the work. In addition, Quik Trip center kicked us out 2 years ago to have the higher paid Arabian show the same weekend. There is no guaranty that we could keep the May weekend chosen. Mid-Continent all breed kennel club “owns” Tulsa county but we still have other venues available near Tulsa. Agility along with conformation and obedience is a big draw for a dogshow. DOT voted no (at meeting 5/09) to go with Mid-Continent for June 2010 show at Quik Trip center due to concern about cost. Motion made by Shirley Schillinger, seconded by Lynda Brownson, to wait to see how this Roundup show goes May of 2010 and defer vote to join with Mid-Continent till after May 2010. Motion passed. Next meeting is the DOT specialty 10/30/09. There is no meeting the first Thursday of November. December meeting is 12/3/09 at Lonnie and Melanie Dickey’s home 6753 E. 66 St. There is no meeting in January. After brags, motion to adjourn by Lynda Brownson, seconded by Mary Switzer, and passed. |
